Skilled CNC Machinist

Our client, an industry poerhouse is seeking a suitably qualified skilled CNC machinist to join their team.

The role involves machining high‑precision components from titanium, steel, and aluminum, working to tight tolerances and quality standards in a production or aerospace/precision engineering environment.
Programming is not a requirement as all shop programs are produced off-line by our Manufacturing Engineering department, but some ISO/EIA programming experience may be useful in out of hours trouble shooting but not a core requirement.

This role will require the individual to work a shift pattern, EARLYS/LATES rotating, and overtime when requested.
The role requires the candidate to be self-certified and a quality stamp holder after qualifying period.

Key Responsibilities

Set, operate, and adjust Mazak CNC machines (3‑axis and 4‑axis), including mill‑turn centres.
Machine complex components to tight tolerances and high surface finish requirements
Work with difficult and exotic materials including titanium, stainless steel, and aluminum alloys
Interpret and work from engineering drawings and technical specifications
Operators will not normally see a cad model in usual operating conditions.  They will work with process stage sketches, tech specs and drawing references where required, using the in-house Solumina interface.  Solumina experience will not need to be a requirement here though as it is easily picked up for shop use.
Offsetting and tool compensation for process control is essential and some experience of speed / feed use may be preferrable for out of hours troubleshooting.
Carry out first‑off inspections and ongoing quality checks using a variety of measuring equipment, including CMM machinery.
Identify and resolve machining or tooling issues to minimise scrap and downtime
Maintain machines and work area to ensure safe and efficient operation
Work to production schedules while maintaining quality and safety standards

Key Skills & Experience

Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Engineering / CNC Machining preferred
Relevant manufacturing or machining certifications advantageous
Proven experience operating Mazak CNC machines
Strong background in 3‑axis and 4‑axis machining
Experience with complex mill‑turn operations
Confident machining titanium, steel, and aluminum
Strong understanding of cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and tool life management
Excellent ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T
Competent with precision measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, CMM awareness)
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

Security Clearance

Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance is required and must be maintained for this role.
