Shift Engineers (electrical bias or multi-skilled)

A prestigious international company is looking to recruit an electrically-biased or multi-skilled Shift Engineer in a permanent position in the York area.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful applicant will work a shift pattern of 7.30am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday. Overtime will be available on an ‘as and when’ basis.

If you are able to accommodate the occasional night-shift holiday cover, this would be advantageous to your application.

Role Purpose:
To ensure the smooth day to day running of the technical function and ensure that company quality standards are adhered to

Main Duties & Responsibilities
The main responsibilities of the role are detailed as follows, please note that this list is not exhaustive:
Assisting the production team where possible in:-
– Providing engineering solutions and assist in an operational capacity
– Monitoring all machines and ancillary plant
– Follow preventative maintenance and lubrication schedules
– Repairs during production
– Planned maintenance
– Inspection outside production hours some week end overtime working will be required to suit the business needs
– Ideally you may have worked with packaging machinery within FMCG environment with supporting college/technical qualifications in line with engineering experience to date.

You will ideally be familiar with maintaining packing equipment with:
– Experience of pneumatics
– Horizontal flow packers
– Vertical form fill baggers
– Carton erectors
– Gluing systems
– Met /dets
– Checkweighers
– Pallet wrapping m/c
– Shrink wrapping
– Various bespoke hand packing / labelling lines some with printers

Other expected tasks:
– To carry out scheduled work to restore machines and site back to standard.
– To carry out changeovers when required.
– Look for opportunities to continuously improve machine performance.
– To follow set procedures and guidelines with respect to food safety and hygiene.
– Health and safety, lock off etc.
– To assist in colleague training and development when required.
– To ensure that good work practices and housekeeping are adhered to.
– Drive own personal development through training and work based experience.
– To undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time, that reasonably fall within the scope and grade of the post.

Qualifications & Experience:
17th/ Edition / 18th edition
Some control / PLC experience would be desirable
Experience of working in a food factory environment would be advantageous
Fully complete apprenticeship is desirable, with packing experience
Basic computer literacy.
Able to communicate and motivate others is an essential part of the role. Understanding of internal systems and processes, with the ability to work within these parameters. An understanding of health and safety requirements is essential.
Self-driven, results-oriented with a positive disposition, and a clear focus on meeting deadlines. Must be flexible in approach to work and undertake overtime during busy periods when required.

Management Ability:
The post holder must be able to work under pressure both as part of a team and on own initiative. Must also be able to communicate effectively to ensure the smooth running of the department. Must be able to make own decisions and liaise with other department colleagues and/or departments.
